The Airline H78
Airline H78
Vintage Reissue Semi Hollow Electric Guitar
If two is good then three is better! At least that’s the motto of this guitar! The Airline H78 from Eastwood Guitars is a tribute to the vintage 1960's Harmony H77 / H78 models (which at the time were also marketed as the Silvertone S1485 and Airline 7230). This deluxe semi-hollow electric guitar delivers all the best parts of the vintage originals while kicking things up a notch with improvements to playability, tone and tuning. Upgraded features include the new Gold Foil Argyle pickups, modern tuners, a roller bridge, and center block construction for Bigsby stability and feedback suppression.
Vintage Vibe, Authentic Appointments
Like most Eastwood interpretations of golden oldies, the Airline H78 deftly captures the visual vibe of the original vintage instrument. From the beautifully arched top and back of its laminated Maple body, to the cool Satin Mint Green finish, to the authentic retro-style appointments and hardware, this beauty looks nearly identical to the guitars that inspired it.
Eastwood Argyle Gold Foil Pickups
Three Eastwood Argyle Gold Foil single-coil pickups look like a rare version of vintage DeArmonds, and their multi-diamond slot pattern is period-correct. Authentic materials and impedance combined with modern construction and potting techniques were utilized to create a more dynamic and better performing pickup for live use as well as recording.
Great Tone and Sonic Versatility!
Another significant upgrade is the change from hollow construction to a center-block-equipped, semi-hollow body design (like a Gibson ES-335). This better supports the Bigsby vibrato and significantly reduces feedback at louder volumes. Further upgrades include the switch from a wooden bridge to a tune-o-matic style bridge with “roller” saddles for improved intonation and tuning stability.
Semi-Hollow Construction
While many of the old “department-store” guitars packed on knobs switches with more regard for how “space-age” it made the instrument look than for how useful the controls actually were, that’s not the case with the H78. Every knob and switch has it’s place: It’s got SEVEN pickup combinations, all of which yield unique tones useful for dialing in everything from chicken pickin’ Twang to old-school Boogie, Alt Country and Rock, or even infusing R&B-style lines with an authentic greasiness.
If you’re looking for a reasonably priced semi-hollow guitar with modern niceties and bona fide vintage looks, the Airline H78 is the guitar to choose.
